Quarters
The denomination of a Quarter Dollar has been in production since nearly the beginning of the United States of America. The first quarter design, the Draped Bust quarter, was authorized in 1792 but not issued until 1796. There have been eight main series, with many more variety changes in between. Most quarters are available in low grade conditions and, like any other denomination, there are some extreme rarities. Mint production numbers range from 4,000 coins per year to around 350 million coins per year. As a type set, most designs can be purchased for relatively low cost, while some types are extremely rare, including the first year issue Draped Bust Quarter.
