Fractional Currency

Fractional Currency was first issued in 1862 and were produced until 1876. The first issues were called postage currency, at term which was eventually changed to 'fractional currency.' Fractional currency was produced in denominations from 3 cents to 50 cents. Fractional or postage currency is one of the least known of United States Currency. With only 14 years of production, they are somewhat scarce, although very moderately priced for their relative availability. There are twenty three distinct designs of fractional currency, all of which are highly sought after by collectors and dealers alike. Fractional currency remains to this day a very important part of the beautiful types of collectible United States paper currency.
