South African Krugerrand

The South African Krugerrand was the first bullion gold coin produced by a countries mint. This coin was produced at the Rand mint and depicts Paul Kruger on the obverse and the Springbok on the reverse. The Krugerrand was the first gold coin produced for the private ownership of gold, although it was intended for circulation. When it was first being minted, the Krugerrand made up nearly 90% of the the gold market. The Krugerrand comes in denominations of 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce, and 1 ounce. They are still probably to most recognized bullion coin throughout the world due to their long participation in the world bullion market, since 1967.
