American Gold Buffalos

The American Gold Buffalo is the United States Government's bullion coin produced from .9999 fine gold, or pure 24k gold. This was done to be competitive against other countries that have been producing their bullion coins from pure gold, rather than 22k. This coin features the design taken, and slightly modified, from the United States Buffalo, or Indian Head, Nickel. The original design was produced by James Earle Frasier. This coin is most commonly found in the 1 ounce or $50 denomination. There are, however, 1/4 ounce ($10) and 1/2 ounce ($25) bullion coins, but these usually command a premium as the mintage of the respective types are lower.
